When did AG Press, LLC start?

It began in 2005 when I had published my first book, ‘Angus Grady; The Beginning,’ with a traditional publisher.  They promised to edit, create my vision for the cover, market and beyond, but sadly did none of those things.  I read through my book: errors everywhere and the cover not even close to what my illustrator designed.  They published it, listed it on their website and that’s it.

Then about a year or so later, I tried two self-publishing companies; one did the same as the traditional and the other was selling my vampire book to kids.  By this time, late 2007, I’d had enough.  I held a meeting with my freelancers and we discussed the future and what we had to offer.

January 1, 2008: AG Press, LLC was launched.

AG came from my first book because I felt it deserved the right attention. AG--Angus Grady.  We developed a self-publishing company where the author owns their work and we create their vision to share and sell.  We have also added some features to guide them in marketing as we market the best way we can.  The best seller of any book is the author because they took the time to write and create so they know how to share their story and get others to listen and own a copy.

We hand-craft our books, the machines we have are computers and printers.  We have people that come in and actually fold the pages to the book, clip them and place sticks along the spine.  The paper is eco-friendly and it comes from Staples, also the cover stock and laminating sheets.  We hand paint the glue on the spine, two coats, then we apply paper tape to give it the rock hard bind it needs.  After printing the covers, applying a laminating sheet to protect it, we use hand boning tools and a ruler to crease the cover to fit the book.  We hand glue this, clip it and it sits overnight to dry completely before it’s ready for use and shipping.  We test each book to ensure it does not break or fall apart.  Thick bind books require glass tape along with paper tape to give the hardness to be used.   The toner for the laser printer is used, we send our cartridges out to Cartridge World in Chelmsford, MA to refilled.  All of this saves costs so we can keep our prices reasonable for our authors, but mostly to save and preserve our world.  Green is so much better.

Each book is someone’s dream, vision, and each one should be treated as such.  It may take four to six weeks to finish a simple stack of books but know you are receiving and sharing a product that was made by hand with pride, tender care and love for sharing a story.
